This essential training guide introduces beginning and intermediate bassists to seven differenl grooves, and provides them with the opportunity to practice alongside John Patitucci on bass, Dave Weckl, and Mike Stern.

The lessons are designed to improve timing, reading skills, and musical range. This book/CD package contains two CDs.

The first disc contains the full rhythm tracks; the second consists of the rhythm tracks without the bass.

The seven lessons cover a wide range of styles and grooves including: Straight-eighths, shuffle (blues), sixteenth-note feel, hip-hop (jazz funk), pop ballad, reggae (shuffle), and Rock.

The book features "road map" charts for each tune, as well as a step-by-step discussion of each section. The charts are perforated so they can easily be removed and placed on a music stand. Patitucci also provides a variety of options for groove and fill ideas.

Each lesson concludes with a "talk down" of the chart, which captures the feel of an actual session or rehearsal.
