Guitar Talks – Basics ist eine moderne Gitarrenschule, die nebst der Notenlehre großen Wert auf die Rhythmik der Musik sowie auf das Ensemblespiel legt. Sie ist gleichermaßen für die akustische als auch die elektrische Gitarre geeignet. Das Einbeziehen der Akkorde praktisch von Beginn weg ermöglicht ein gezieltes Üben der Rhythmik und trägt zusätzlich entscheidend zu einer guten Stellung der linken Hand bei.

Das ausgewählte oder selbstgeschriebene Liedmaterial reicht vom „Oldies but goldies" Stil bis hin zur Rock/Pop Musik.

Die dazugehörige CD besticht durch ihre Anwendbarkeit. Jede einzelne Stimme kann damit geübt werden. Die SchülerInnen können zwischen linkem - (Melodie) und rechtem (Begleitung) Kanal wählen. Für die Trios sind jeweils drei Tracks vorhanden, also für jede Stimme eine. Dank diesem Konzept der CD ist das Buch zweifach brauchbar. Einerseits für das Erlernen der Notenschrift, andererseits zum erlernen der Begleitgitarre. Ist man beispielsweise bei Seite 46 angelangt, kann man diverse Lieder die früher im Buch gespielt wurden, wieder zum Üben einer Begleitung verwenden.

This book is an ideal beginner's introduction to the guitar, be it acoustic or electric. It is written to be used under a teacher's tutelage, either one-on-one or in-group context. Adults may also use it through their self-studying. For children, the chords may be taught in a simplified manner as explained in the book. For adults, I suggest teaching the full chords immediately as shown in the chord index (p. 70).

This book focuses in rhythmic aspects of the music and encourages the ensemble playingright from the start. Most of the songs recorded on the CD have a guitar accompaniment even if one is not written in the book.

To make optimal use of the CD it is best to work with a Hi Fi where the balance of the left and right channels can be adjusted. Melodies always are on the left channel, the guitar accompaniment on the right channel.
